Lets educate the street food vendors in food safety

Besides dangers of dust and foreign matter, uncovered food attract pests, particularly flies and cockoraches.

  • Therefore insist on the vendor to cover the food properly for preventing any kind of contamination.

  • Do not consume samosas, tikkies, snack & other foods that have been prepared earlier and kept out for long. Remember, always consume hot foods hot and cold foods cold.

  • Dirty wiping cloth and napkins/hankerchiefs are a potential hazard as they harbour germ(bacteria).

  • The water and /or ice used for 'water balls' (golgappa pani) may not be potable and thus unsafe for consumption.

Even if the water/ice used in potable, the same may get contaminated if

  • the vendor does not wash his hands properly and regularly.
  • after using the dirty wiping cloth, he directly touches the water balls (golgappas) or other food items.
  • dips his hands in water (pani) for filling the golpappas (water balls).

Therefore, insist on the vendor to

  • use filtered potable water and ice made from potable water.
  • wash his hands properly before preparing/ serving food item for you.
  • preferably wear cap and apron so as to prevent hair, dirt and germs from contaminating the food being prepared/served for you.

  • Wear clean disposable gloves on both hands while preparing /serving.

  • use clean wiping cloth or disposable paper napkins.

  • Preferably use a tap fitted, closed container, for filling the water balls (golgappas).
